Full participation is a long-standing goal of the disability community—but for many, it remains out of reach. At Able Innovation, our work is grounded in a simple but powerful idea: participation doesn’t happen by chance. It happens when the right conditions are intentionally designed.
At the Move United Education Conference we introduced research highlighting three critical issues that continue to limit full participation in social, recreation, and physical activity:
- The societal impact of disability is widely misunderstood
- The importance of recreation and physical activity is under-recognized
- A persistent engagement gap exists between interest and actual participation
For the disability community, full participation means more than access. It means having the opportunity to engage fully, consistently, and meaningfully—without unnecessary barriers, uncertainty, or friction.
